Lost Hollow – Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden
Sitework Studios, in collaboration with W. Gary Smith Design, designed ‘Lost Hollow’- the new $6 million children’s garden for the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden near Charlotte. The garden incorporates nature-inspired play spaces that encourage exploration and interaction with the surrounding environment. Architectural relics from a demolished mansion were incorporated into the design of the garden and add an extra dimension of interest and character to the space. The new garden has a refined hardscape and horticultural design, making this one of the south’s most exciting garden spaces. In addition to being a learning and play environment for young visitors, the garden’s pavilion is as a major public venue that hosts a wide variety of programmed events.
As Prime Consultant, Sitework Studios managed the design team which included civil, structural, and MEP engineers; architects, lighting and fountain consultants, and artists. Phase II of the project is currently underway.
The project received a 2016 Merit Award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
