The Wedge at Foundation

The Wedge at Foundation was constructed in 1898 and housed the largest leather tannery in the country. It has been adaptively reused as a vibrant establishment that draws locals and tourists alike to enjoy the River Arts District’s atmosphere and renowned graffiti murals. Sitework Studios worked directly with the client, The Wedge, to create a landscape plan that met code, but would reflect the historic character of the site. We worked closely with the City of Asheville Urban Forestry Commission to acquire a special permit to provide a design that would better fit the site’s needs. We also developed a plan to incorporate plants that would adapt to the floodplain and remediate the industrial site. Existing materials and urbanite were incorporated into the framework of our design to reinstate the history of the site.
